Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! We hope that you had a restful and rejuvenating holiday break. Now that we are back in school, we will continue to build our learning. The focus for this month will be independence. Students have learned a variety of strategies in reading and we are hoping to push students to do more on their own. We would like to see students applying new skills that they learn. If a child has trouble with a word while reading, encourage them to think of ways to figure it out. Some tips are to ask the student: Are there any letters and sounds you already know? Can you figure out a small part of the word? Can you tap it out? Also, please continue to have discussions with the children to further their thinking. Encourage them to add more details to their answers and to explain things by using words like “because” and “for example”. Lastly, please have them speak in complete sentences. The more that we practice to articulate our thoughts, the easier it will be to make it a habit! As always, we are available via Class Dojo or by appointment for any questions and concerns. ¡Feliz año nuevo! Esperamos que haya tenido unas vacaciones relajantes y rejuvenecedoras. Ahora que estamos de regreso en la escuela, continuaremos fortaleciendo nuestro aprendizaje. El foco de este mes será la independencia. Los estudiantes han aprendido una variedad de estrategias en lectura y esperamos alentarlos a hacer más por su cuenta. Nos gustaría ver a los estudiantes aplicar las nuevas habilidades que aprenden. Si un niño tiene problemas con una palabra mientras lee, anímelo a pensar en formas de resolverla. Algunos consejos son preguntar al alumno: ¿Hay alguna letra y sonido que ya conozcas? ¿Puedes descifrar una pequeña parte de la palabra? ¿Puedes tocarlo? Además, continúe conversando con los niños para avanzar en su pensamiento. Anímelos a agregar más detalles a sus respuestas y a explicar cosas usando palabras como “porque” y “por ejemplo”. Por último, pídales que hablen con oraciones completas. ¡Cuanto más practiquemos para articular nuestros pensamientos, más fácil será convertirlo en un hábito!
