Music

Dear Parent/Guardian,

May is going to be an amazing month of musical learning in the music room! The Disney Musicals in Schools program has begun. We have started our production of Disney’s Frozen with rehearsals twice a week after school. New Orff instruments (mallet percussion) will be arriving over the next few weeks and months. Students will have many opportunities to perform, create and improvise on these wonderful instruments. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will continue reading iconic rhythmic and melodic notation, perform soundscapes with a variety of percussion instruments, and continue improvising with xylophones and djembes. Students will continue to grow their musical vocabulary through a variety of movement and instrumental playing activities.  2nd grade students will continue work on performing increasingly complex arrangements of folk songs with different sections. 2nd graders will continue to develop their understanding of written notation while working on improvisation. 3rd grade students will continue developing basic skills on the ukuleles and keyboard. They will also work on beginning to play in a modern band ensemble situation. 4th and 5th grade students will be working on performing 3 chord pop songs as an ensemble. In addition, 5th graders will continue learning new modern band arrangements while reviewing older songs in a full band context. Please reach out to me with any questions at MClifford@schools.nyc.gov

Sincerely,

Mr. Clifford
